The original concept for the European Business
Schools came about at the end of the 1960's at a time when Europe
was slowly beginning to build the political and economic union which
we now call the European Union. Up to then Education was considered
a national issue and each country felt its way of approaching the
subject was the best. The founders of the EBSI concept realised
that students needed to be prepared for the new evolving Europe
where boundaries - political, economic and social - were beginning
to fall. Education needed to become international.
The original schools in France, Germany and
Britain designed a programme of study which combined business studies
with foreign languages and periods of study abroad in the partner
schools. They also placed heavy emphasis on practical work placements
which they felt were essential in preparing students for the world
of international business.
The same fundamental concept underpins all
the programmes available at the EBSI schools today. Over time schools
developed other programmes and also other networks of contacts outside
the Group which allows students the opportunity to study and live
all over the world and not just in Europe.
The EBSI Group of schools remains committed
to the concept of a truly international education preparing students
for the global marketplace. To achieve our objectives the schools
of the EBSI Group have formed a European Economic Interest Group
- a recognised European form of assocation - which facilitates our
co-operation across the European Union.
